Welcome, Nahliah: Introducing OPEN’s New Executive Director

The Orleans Public Education Network (OPEN) Board of Directors is proud to announce the hire of experienced education nonprofit professional Nahliah Webber as OPEN’s new Executive Director. Ms. Webber assumes the position recently previously held by Deidre Johnson Burel.

Ms. Webber holds a Master’s degree in Sociology and Education from Columbia University. She comes to us from Webber Strategies, a technical assistance educational non- profit where she drove strategies, execution plans, curriculum and program development, and advocated for culturally responsive practices in education programs.

Ms. Webber also brings skills in community engagement, business operations, and grant strategy. Her commitment, perseverance, and leadership have been critical to her success in previous positions over the last seven years. Respected as a consummate professional who is highly skilled in securing buy-in from multiple sources, Ms. Webber’s ability to meld strategic thinking with relationship building will help OPEN forward it’s vision of a New Orleans where trust and honesty are integral in all social interactions, and inclusion and transparency are hallmarks of public policy decisions.

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” says Flozell Daniels Jr., OPEN’s Board Chairperson. “Nahliah has a child-centered approach, impressive management talents and proven commitment to community-driven and values-based approaches. With support from our partners, and building on the amazing foundation that Deirdre has built with the OPEN team, we stand poised to take this great organization into its next chapter.”

Ms. Webber adds: “I am pleased and excited to be joining OPEN, and I plan to build on the organization’s powerful work of ensuring that the community’s voice shapes and enhances educational opportunities for all students in New Orleans. Expanding our community base, developing community leaders, and supporting sound education policies will create a powerful force for equity and excellence in our public schools. I look forward to working with the OPEN team and all of our stakeholders to see our vision of excellent public education for all students come to pass.”

Consistent with our commitment to inform and mobilize our community to achieve equity and excellence for every child in New Orleans public schools, we are confident in Ms. Webber’s experience and passion to lead OPEN. We look forward to working with her, and you, our community and supporters, to sharpen our collective vision and strengthen our impact on public education.
